• Applicant and inventor details, plus proof of assignment where the applicant differs from the inventor
• Technical drawings or diagrams supporting the description, if relevant
• Power of attorney, when the filing goes through a registered patent agent

The Patent Filing Process

1. Run a prior-art search to confirm the invention is genuinely new against existing patents and publications
2. File the specification — provisional or complete — with the Indian Patent Office
3. For a provisional filing, submit the complete specification within 12 months
4. Request examination separately from filing — publication happens automatically at the 18-month mark
5. Respond to the objections raised in the First Examination Report
6. Satisfy the examiner's requirements and receive the patent grant
