Meghalaya's economy has historically leaned on coal mining, alongside agriculture and a growing tourism sector centred on Shillong and the state's well-known waterfalls and living root bridges. Any advisor or firm in Meghalaya planning to distribute mutual funds and earn commission needs a valid ARN before doing so.
StartRight4U supports Meghalaya-based individuals and firms through every stage of AMFI registration and KYD compliance.
Understanding AMFI Registration
AMFI Registration is the process of obtaining an ARN (AMFI Registration Number) — the credential the Association of Mutual Funds in India issues, on SEBI's mandate, that's legally required before anyone can sell or distribute mutual fund schemes in India. Without a valid ARN, a distributor has no legal basis to earn commission or process mutual fund transactions for asset management companies.
Who This Registration Applies To
- Individual distributors: financial advisors and agents selling mutual funds to retail investors
- Corporate distributors: banks, NBFCs, and firms distributing funds at scale, requiring both a corporate ARN and individual EUINs for sales staff
- Any person earning commission on mutual fund sales, whether it's a primary or secondary business activity
Eligibility Criteria
- Individual applicants must be at least 18 years old
- A valid NISM Series V-A (Mutual Fund Distributors) certification, cleared through the NISM exam
- PAN card and completed KYD (Know Your Distributor) formalities
- Valid business registration and authorised signatory documentation, for corporate applicants
Documents Needed for Registration
- Proof of NISM Series V-A certification
- PAN card and Aadhaar or other government-issued ID
- Passport-sized photographs
- A completed KYD form filed through a CAMS-authorised point of service
- Business registration and signatory KYC documents, for corporate entities
How AMFI Registration Works
- Pass the NISM Series V-A Mutual Fund Distributors certification exam
- Complete KYD formalities at a CAMS-authorised point of service
- File the ARN application with the NISM certificate and KYD acknowledgement attached
- Pay the prescribed registration fee
- Receive the ARN card, valid for three years and renewable on expiry
